Catering your Event

When interviewing a client about a prospective job, there are a few key factors that will aid in the caterers decision making process on whether or not to provide a potential client with services. In this hard economy, it's very difficult for a caterer to turn away business but at times it may be a choice that neither you or the client won't regret. A caterer should be clear and concise as to the level of their capabilities which may determine just how well they can get the job done. Some jobs may not fit the caterers criteria, whether it be scope, cuisine, budget, location, etc.... We exist based on our reputation as service providers in the food industry says Chef Payne and bad customer service can prove to be very detrimental to your company's growth especially if you're a young company. Word of mouth is a powerful marketing tool that cannot be bought so it would be lucrative to any company to get all necessary information needed to provide the client with the highest level of service. The following are a few simple questions to ask the client in order to get things started:
  • Type of event
  • Date
  • Theme
  • Total number of guest
  • Location
  • List of services (buffet, sit-down meal, bar services, etc.)
  • Menu selection
  • Any allergies or dietary restrictions
  • Budget
Catering is the biggest expense of any event so be clear of what you expect from a caterer. There are a lot of factors to consider when choosing the right caterers so below I've included a few simple ones to ask the caterer:
  • Are you licensed?
  • How long have you been in business?
  • How many similar events have you done?
  • Is my date open?
  • Have you catered any event at my venue?
  • Do you specialize in certain cuisines?
  • Can you arrange for a tasting?
  • Do you offer food with certain dietary restrictions?
  • What is your average price range?
  • Do you provide any other services?
  • Do you work with fresh or frozen food?
  • Are you catering any other events on the day of my event?
